Ingredients
- Fresh green Peppercorns -2 tablespoon
- Shallots -10 or small onion – 1
- Garlic – 6 cloves
- Tomato -1 medium finely chopped
- Tamarind -1 small lemon sized ball (soaked in 1/2 cup warm water)
- Mustard seeds -1 teaspoon
- Curry leave – 1spring
- Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
- Red chili powder -1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder -1 teaspoon
- Cumin powder -1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper powder -1/2 teaspoon
- Salt-to taste
- Sesame oil (gingelly oil)-2 tablespoon
- Water as needed
How to make patchai milagu kulampu

1.Prepare the tamarind extract
- Squeeze the soaked tamarind and extract the juice.Discard the pulp.
2.Tempering
- Heat sesame oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds let them splutter.
- Add curry leaves followed by chopped shallots and garlic,saute until golden brown.
3.Cooking the base
- Add chopped tomato and saute until soft.
- Add turmeric,coriander, and cumin powder.
4.Add tamarind
- Pour in the tamarind extract and let it simmer for 5 minutes.
5.Final adjustments
- Add salt to taste and a little black pepper powder if u want extra heat.
- Let the gravy simmer until thick and aromatic.
Serve
- Serve hot with steamed ricr,dosa or idli.
